ABRSM’s new fund supports grass-roots projects in Haiti, Brazil, Kenya and Nicaragua

ABRSM's International Sponsorship Fund (ISF) is offering a helping hand to select grass-roots projects across the world, improving musical tuition, musical employment, social inclusion and wellbeing.

Projects in four countries will benefit from the ISF, set up by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). The ISF launched in 2012 and aims to help countries around the world buy and repair instruments, train teachers, and support musical education projects.
In Haiti, the ISF 2021 will help deliver workshops through BLUME Haiti and the Musicians of the Utah Symphony Orchestra. Support will also go to the Kenya Conservatoire of Music’s Women’s Orchestra; will also develop a new syllabus in Rio de Janeiro through the Harmony Project Phoenix. Funding will also enable Casa Alianza’s music project in Nicaragua, where street children will be given music learning opportunities in partnership with Compass Children’s Charity.
ABRSM’s chief executive Chris Cobb said: 'As a global music education organisation we are committed to helping break down barriers to music in all corners of the world.
'The ISF provides modest funding for grassroots projects carefully selected for the impact that they can have on the musical progression of local people by breaking down barriers to learning.'
The ISF 2022 will be receiving applications from 10 August 2021.
