In a BBC Four broadcast presented by Anna Lapwood on Friday evening, three young musicians were announced as the BBC Young Musician 2020 finalists.

Impressing in the Semi Final round and taking a spot in the final were 18-year old Annemarie Federle (French horn), 19-year old Ewan Millar (oboe), and 17-year old Fang Zhang (percussion).

Federle, from Cambridge, is currently in her first year at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Millar, from Reading in Berkshire, is in his second year reading music at Oxford University, and Zhang, born in China’s Henan province, is a student of Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester.

Each musician will perform a concerto of their choice in the final round, accompanied by the BBC Philharmonic.

The Grand Final will be broadcast on BBC Four and BBC Radio 3 on 2 May at 8pm, having been recorded on 25 April 2021.
