The recently appointed Schools Minister, Damian Hinds MP, has replied on behalf of the government to a joint letter from three leading sector organisations highlighting a significant funding shortfall in music education.

The joint letter, dated 5 December, alerted the government to a funding gap severely restricting the ability of organisations and music hubs to deliver the 2022 National Plan for Music Education.

Addressed to the Secretary of State for Education, Gillian Keegan MP, the letter asked the government ‘to support all employers with staff in the Teachers’ Pension Scheme to cover the increase in employer contributions’, and ‘to commit to an inflationary-linked uplift to the funding for music education hubs’.
