A phrase is a 'musical sentence'. Phrasing is how we make sense of pitches and rhythms, and organise them into coherent patterns. Like a sentence constructed from words, a phrase needs to have flow, shape, a sense of direction, emphasis on certain notes and a feeling of completion at the end. This resource will examine how we perform each phrase with expression, conviction, coherence and stylistic awareness.
