Young musicians can now enter the 2022 BBC Young Jazz Musician competition; entries close on Friday 22 July.

Applicants can play any style of jazz they wish, but must demonstrate contrast of tempo and feel in their audition.

There must be a substantial element of improvisation in their performance, as that is part of the judging criteria. Entries must be sent via video on an entry form from the BBC Young Jazz Musician website.

In the final, which will take place on 19 November 2022, one of the performances from the young musicians must be their own composition or arrangement.

In 2020, pianist Deschanel Gordon won the BBC Young Jazz Musician award, graduating from Trinity Laban with first class honours in the same year.

Applicants need to be 22 or under on 1 September 2022, and must be a UK resident to enter.
