Digital music education resource pack launched by NMC Recordings

The resources for Key Stage 3 students culminate in a digital exhibition showcasing the students’ work on contemporary music in the NMC catalogue.

Celebrating 30 years of NMC Recordings, the record label and charity has launched a ‘digital exhibition’ education resource pack for 11- to 14-year-olds.
The six videos and accompanying worksheets explore contemporary music from the label’s catalogue, encouraging students to create a ‘panel’ for display in the digital exhibition. The panel will be focused on a particular track or album and will incorporate research carried out by the students.
Introducing students to music by composers such as Thea Musgrave, Howard Skempton, Errollyn Wallen, and Judith Weir, the videos and worksheets include contributions from writer and BBC Radio 3 presenter Kate Romano and composer and researcher Dr Stephen Berryman.
To create their panels, students are encouraged to engage with their chosen piece of music by selecting extracts of the score, finding out more information about the composer and what inspires them, and considering their personal reactions to the music.
NMC highlights multiple transferable skills developed through this project, including communication, creative problem solving, independent learning, and collaboration.
