The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama (RWCMD) has announced its 2025 Honorary Fellows, celebrating seven influential figures who have made significant contributions to culture, education and inclusion. The Fellows will be formally recognised at the College’s graduation ceremonies on July 10 and 11, held in the Dora Stoutzker Hall.

This year’s Honorary Fellows in music include Barry Farrimond-Chuong MBE, CEO and co-founder of the charity Open Up Music, which has expanded access to music for disabled young people. He is a vocal supporter of RWCMD’s inclusive initiatives, notably its partnership with BBC NOW and the National Open Youth Orchestra.

Mari Pritchard, National Coordinator for the National Music Service Wales and a key figure in choral music education, is honoured for her pivotal role in connecting young people across Wales with creative opportunities.

Renowned composer Rhian Samuel, whose portfolio includes over 140 published works, is recognised for her deep engagement with the College and for her advocacy of women in composition and Welsh cultural identity.

Also joining the list is broadcaster and cultural advocate Huw Stephens. Known for his work on BBC Wales and BBC Radio 6, Stephens has earned multiple BAFTA Cymru Awards and is a long-time promoter of new Welsh talent through his broadcasts and live events.

RWCMD Principal Helena Gaunt praised the Fellows, saying, ‘Our 2025 Honorary Fellows inspire us not only through their achievements but through their belief in the power of the arts to connect, empower and change lives.’

As Wales’ national conservatoire, RWCMD honours individuals who exemplify its mission to cultivate creativity, foster innovation, and shape a vibrant cultural future.
