Over 870 young performers to take part in MTI Junior Theatre Festival Online

Friday, May 7, 2021

Those attending will be given early access to a new one-hour version of Matilda for young performers, which will be released to all in late May.

Hundreds of young people from 33 schools and youth groups across the UK, Ireland and Europe will be taking part in the online version of Music Theatre International’s (MTI) Junior Theatre Festival on Saturday.

The day-long event features West End workshops for students, specially curated workshops for teachers and directors, panel discussions with performers and creators from West End shows, and exclusive performances.

Running sessions throughout the day, Tim Minchin and Dennis Kelly, writers of Matilda the Musical, will be joined by representatives from Hamilton, The Lion King, &Juliet, Mary Poppins and other shows. Performers taking part include Miriam-Teak Lee, Luke Sheppard, Rob Houchen, Alexia Khadime, Jamie Muscato, and more.

Joining from the UK, Ireland, Norway, Malta, Georgia and the Czech Republic, the schools and youth groups will also be given priority access to a specially-created one-hour version of Matilda designed for young performers, before the show is released to all school and youth groups across UK and Ireland in late May.

MTI is planning to run an in-person Junior Festival on 24 October at the ICC in Birmingham.
