TCL reveals repertoire-only pathway for digital grades

The new pathway from Trinity College London aims to offer further flexibility to its digital classical and jazz grades, providing an alternative option to the existing ‘technical work’ pathway.

Trinity College London has launched a pieces-only exam pathway to add flexibility to its classical and jazz digital grades.

The exam board emphasises that the exam entry process remains the same, but there are now two ‘pathways’ to choose from.

Firstly, the existing technical work route asks for three repertoire pieces, as well as a technical work. Secondly, the new repertoire-only option instead requires four pieces of repertoire.

The move follows ABRSM releasing Performance Grades alongside its Practical Grade options.

There has been a positive reaction from those in the music education field, with one music educator tweeting: ‘This is excellent news from TCL, offering students yet another option within the exam marketplace.’
