Orchestras for All (OFA) is relaunching two of its core programmes for teachers and young people: the National Orchestra for All and Modulo.

Modulo assists under-resourced teachers and music leaders to develop their own ensemble, known as a ‘Modulo’, of between four and 15 young people aged 11-18. These groups can then meet with others to create larger groups in a scheme called ‘Modulo Meets’.

In addition to this, OFA is relaunching its non-auditioned, inclusive national youth orchestra, the National orchestra for All (NOFA). The group is open to 100 young musicians aged 11-19 who face significant barriers in their daily lives, such as mental health conditions, rural isolation, economic deproivation or physical disability.

During NOFA’s spring 2022 residential, NOFA oboeist, Lily, said: ‘Being part of NOFA has also helped me to develop as a musician – the music we’re learning takes you out of your comfort zone but not to the point of breaking you, so it’s good to have that little push.'

The programmes were previously paused due to the pandemic.

You can sign up to Modulo here if you are a maintained secondary school with limited access to music-making, or are looking for events for your students to participate in.
