RCM appoints six new string faculty professors

From September 2023, Rodrigo Moro Martin will join the Royal College of Music (RCM) as a professor of double bass. Martin was recently appointed as principal double bass of the London Symphony Orchestra alongside his role in the same position at Orquesta Nacional de España and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.

In addition to this newly announced appointment, five other stings professors have also recently joined RCM. 

Isabel Villanueva has been appointed as a viola professor, after being involved in collaborating and premiering more than 20 new works for viola, and also being awarded the Culture Award of the Community of Madrid in 2019. 

Another appointment at RCM has been that of viola professor Bryony Gibson-Cornish, who is the violist of the Marmen Quarter - winners of the Banff and Bordeaux International String Quartet Competitions. Having coached chamber music at the RCM since 2017, she jointed the professorial roster last September. 

Violin professor Emily Sun has also recently joined RCM’s string faculty; the violinist has previously been praised by The Guardian for her ‘searing and poetic tone.’

In addition to these appointments, Timothy Walden and Gemma Rosefield also joined the RCM as cello professors last September.

RCM head of strings, Mark Messenger, said: ‘I am thrilled to be able to add to the Royal College of Music’s wonderful string faculty with these appointments. It is a privilege to invite renowned pedagogues and international artists to join the RCM, but also exciting to give opportunities to the new generation of great teachers.’
