Truro School, Cornwall, has announced a multi-million-pound music centre and refurbished (multi-use) school hall to provide a dedicated orchestra rehearsal space, classrooms for KS3 and A Level, and bespoke practice rooms, all built to stringent sustainability standards.

The Project extends the school’s existing contribution and support for local musical partnerships, including with Truro Cathedral, schools, and the Cornwall Music Service Trust, which has its offices at the school and co-planned the project.

Truro School headteacher Andy Johnson said: ‘I am proud to be heading a school that embraces the transformative power of music education, investing with prudence and ambition in the cultural enrichment of the School and Cornwall’s wider community.’

The Head of Service at Cornwall Music Service Trust (CMST), Gareth Churcher, said: ‘Cornwall Music Service Trust is a charity providing music teaching, support, and therapy for close to 10,000 children across over 240 schools or settings in Cornwall, and we see this facility as incredibly important for music education. We are now in our tenth year of operation and are very excited about the tangible opportunities the Music Project will present, providing an efficient and effective environment to facilitate our work as a charity.’

Truro School is one of Cornwall’s leading independent schools for girls and boys aged 3-18. The Music Project will enrich the school’s musical tradition, which currently means 40 annual concerts, a yearly summer festival, and individual music lessons for over 250 pupils.
