'Why Music Festival' extended to secondary school students

Now in its second year, the Why Music Festival is a free online event hosted by professor Nathan Holder. The festival features book readings, interviews, giveaways, and opportunities to ask questions of leading players, composers, producers and educators.

Holder is author of the Why Music series of educational books, which promote learning about music and feature diverse characters and a wide range of musical styles.

Last year the festival engaged with 6000 primary-school aged children. This year the target is to reach 10,000 across the primary and secondary school age-range.

Invited guests include BBC broadcaster and bassoonist Linton Stephens, award-winning production duo Doc Inc, bandleader Suzanne Aston, saxophonist Cassie Kinoshi, soundsmith Kapil Seshasayee and jazz pianist Nikki Yeoh.

On 27 June, the guests include Matt Griffiths, CEO of Youth Music, and Rowan Rutter, CEO of City of London Sinfonia.

Those who register for the event will automatically be entered into prize draws to win books and other educational resources.

Recordings of the sessions will be available online after the event.
