The virtual composition festival is entering its second year, and aims to encourage and support creativity in young piano students.

Entries now are open until 1 July for Compose Yourself!, an online composition festival for pianists aged 5 to 18.

Young people are invited to enter, and those who do will receive a constructive comment sheet from a panel of adjudicators, a certificate, and a digital Trinity Theory Workbook.

Participants may also download pieces of music written by leading contemporary composers such as Pam Wedgewood, Christopher Norton and Ben Crosland.

The festival invites young pianists to enter in either the competitive or non-competitive category; those in the competitive category have the chance to win music books and gift vouchers.

This year, the adjudication panel will include esteemed music educator and concert pianist Murray McLachlan and renowned composers June Armstrong, Nikolas Sideris and Lindsey Berwin.

The festival celebrates every entrants’ achievement by sharing their compositions in a showcase playlist; you can listen to the winners of the 2021 compositions here.

Speaking about last year's Compose Yourself! festival, the Giles Farnaby Piano Studio said: ‘Comments were welcomed with great enthusiasm by everyone and felt especially motivating. As a result children are beaming with confidence and hunger for more piano.’

The festival is supported by Trinity College London and has a partnership with Editions Musica Ferrum.
